The Municipality of Olovo has launched Phase 1 of the KRIOT project (Krivaja is Our Treasure) in cooperation with the Association for Education and Environmental Protection UDEG.
A team of 6 people is actively working on cleaning the banks of the Krivaja river along the stretch from Trokut to Maoča. All collected waste is sorted on-site — plastic, aluminum, and other materials are separated for proper recycling and disposal.
This action is just the beginning. A large cleanup action with 300 volunteers is planned, covering a wider section of the Krivaja river in the Olovo municipality area.
The project is part of the broader DALIA Danube program connecting countries in the Danube region in a joint effort for clean rivers.
The following activities are also planned within the KRIOT project
- Procurement of a motorized boat for rescue and intervention activities on the river
- Establishment of a summer outdoor classroom for educating youth about aquatic ecosystem protection
- Installation of 9 information boards at rest areas along the Krivaja river
- Establishment of a plastic processing laboratory as a pilot project for sustainable waste management
The KRIOT project is implemented in a consortium between UDEG and the Municipality of Olovo, with support from the European Union via the DALIA Rivers Revived program.
